“I’m not as intelligent as the owl. However, I do my best to work smartly and efficiently as a designer. I look at all the projects or work in a positive perspective and of course I focus on my work in the background, but I do not refrain from presenting my ideas. There is more about me than just a logo”
I do not have particular experience creating brands or designing logo and branding. Taking my time designing my own brand identity that fit in my personality and who I am as a designer was fun. This is a personal project and there are a lot of ideas I had considered from using my initial, typographic logo, making it iconic, using graphic elements, images, how it will look on my website/portfolio and how this will complement my resume and and other online accounts. This also made me understand myself as a designer.
A quick experimentation with typographic logo experiments using my initial RVR which stands for my full name Richard Villa Radam. Using a combination of shapes to form my initial and put it all together with different colours was interesting, but it’s not reflecting who I am. Later I thought about who I am as a person and designer, this includes my zodiac sign, or birth sign, my favorite characters, creatures, elements and the kind of designer I am.
Birds are one of my favourite creatures and this is because they have a way to adapt to certain environments. They come in different shapes and colours, they are majestic creatures, they can fly and travel far distances. If you ask me, what kind of bird would I be - I’ll probably be an owl. This is because they see things in different perspectives, they work and examine their surrounding in the background quietly while they hunt, they are creative and intelligent creatures. But how does the owl connect with me as a designer? Well, I’m not as intelligent as the owl. However, I do my best to work smartly and efficiently as a designer. I look at all projects or work in a positive perspective and of course I focus on my work in the background but I do not refrain from presenting my ideas. There is more about me than just a logo. I strive to be at my best, learn everyday and work hard not just to complete a project or work but aim to create an impactful outcome and design it with purpose in mind.
Here’s my identity with my initial RVR hidden in the form of an owl. Encapsulating my creativity, skills, expanding experience, and a determination to learn new knowledge as a creative designer.
You might have noticed that I’ve implemented some branding, not only on my social media (LinkedIn and Vimeo) but also applying this to my resume, covering letter, PDF portfolio, resignation letter etc. The curve represents wings - it carries all my experience, skills and expertise under my wings and takes it with me whenever I go.
I hope you enjoy reading this as much I enjoyed creating my own identity.
